Note: These steps may not work if you are using third party software on the desktop to synchronize your data. Fatal errors are usually caused by corrupt data. Corrupt data is usually caused by cheap third party applications on the handheld. To try to resolve these errors, clean your backup directory. Launch either File Manager or Windows Explorer and open the Palm directory. Next, open the user directory followed by the backup directory. Move all files to a temporary location outside of the Palm directory and attempt a HotSync. Then hard reset the handheld. A hard reset removes all data and foreign applications that reside on the Palm and will restore the unit to its default configuration. All data previously synchronized with the Desktop will be restored during the next HotSync. We suggest that you HotSync your unit with the Desktop before performing this procedure if possible. To perform a hard reset: Hard Reset 1. Hold down the green power button on the Palm's front panel. 2. While holding down the power button, use the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or similar object without a sharp tip) to gently press the Reset button. 3. A message prompt should appear on the PalmPilot's screen, warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your PalmPilot. Press the scroll up button on the PalmPilot's front panel to complete the hard reset. Now, the Digitizer screen appears, the same as starting the PalmPilot for the first time. Change the Custom HotSync settings for all applications to "Desktop overwrites PalmPilot" and perform a HotSync. Once finished, restore the Custom HotSync settings back to Synchronize. If you still receive Fatal Errors after these steps. There may be some other data corruption within your data. You may want to look through your data one entry at a time to see when you experience the Fatal Error. For an example, if you open the Address Book and select a record and receive a Fatal Error, that record is most likely causing the problem and will need to be removed. If you open the Address Book and receive a Fatal Error without selecting anything, your entire Address Book database may be corrupted and will need to be removed. The same thing applies for other applications such as Date Book and To Do. |
